UPDATE: Version 18.09 has been re-released (build 18.09.16)
to fix major new bugs with the Rotate and Scale, Size and
Position, Text, Chroma Key, Key Spill, and White Balance filters.
This release is packed with fixes and improvements in many areas!
Added Ripple support for moving clips including Ripple All Tracks.
When Ripple is on and you move a clip to the right, it now
ripples (pushes) all the clips to the right instead of making a transition
(including the Ripple All Tracks option).

channel (PNG, SVG).

the following clip.
Fixed Properties > Speed, Convert, Reverse, and More Information does not work sometimes after reloading a project.

in Size and Position and Text filters.

right and bottom edge of frame.
Fixed trimming a timeline clip with Fade In/Out Video filters
with “Adjust opacity instead of fade with black” enabled.
Fixed Export may change the actual frame rate and cause timing errors.
Fixed reducing the Frame/sec in Export causes timing errors in the output.
Fixed image scaling interpolation method when not using a transform filter.
Removed the Compositing toggle icon from the Timeline track head. Now,
it is located in the track Properties as Blend mode with a None option.
In the 3D Text filter, replaced the Droid fonts with Liberation due to an
Well, to be honest, there is not much speed improvement. Most of the improvement
comes from a fix to prevent an incomplete shutdown. In the case of the 32-bit
Windows build, since more memory can be accessed now, we have removed some of
(not all) multi-threading limits.
Improved the performance of changing filter parameters and scrubbing.
Limit the number of background thumbnail and waveform generation threads to 4.
Prevent trying to generate audio levels for waveforms for still images and
other silent sources.
This version brings hardware encoding to macOS and VA-API encoding for Linux.
Meanwhile, the experimental GPU Effects mode, which was always unstable and
unsupported is made a truly advanced option by hiding it. Now, one can only
enable it by manually changing the configuration file/registry. To make things
easier a New Project screen was added, most Export options are hidden behind an Advanced button, hardware encoding gets a checkbox, and a signed macOS build is
Much of this release was based on contributions in the form of code, presets,
title templates, feedback, bug reports, and testing nightly builds or the beta.

Added an automatic retry without Parallel processing when Export job fails.

The new Mask: Apply filter makes it possible to mask filters without using
multiple tracks! Use Mask: Simple Shape or Mask: From File to start the
filter mask followed the video filters to be masked followed by Mask: Apply
to apply the mask to the filters in between. Filters before or after the mask
filters affect the entire video frame. One can still use Mask: Simple Shape
or the new Mask: From File to affect the alpha channel for multitrack
compositing as before.
Added View > Scopes > Video Histogram.
Added Preset to some more filters:
Added Preset and simple and advanced keyframes to the Balance and Pan audio filters.
Added a Levels video filter with simple and advanced keyframes!

Replace the Mask video filter with 3 new filters:
Mask: Simple Shape
Mask: From File
The new Mask: From File is a powerful new video filter offering 3 modes:
wipe transition (stock or custom)
Channel > Brightness from a video or image file (File > Custom…)
Channel > Alpha from a video or image file
Moreover, Threshold can be animated with simple or keyframes, which is
especially nice when used with luma-wipe image files (stock or custom). Not only
can you wipe on a filter but also you can use this as an alternative way to make
a wipe transition using multiple tracks (instead of same track transition).

Changed Properties > Reverse… to use project folder if used.
When Reverse job completes, automatically open it and add it to the Playlist.
Start playback from the beginning if you play when the play head is at the end.
Improved speed of the Text and Timer video filters.
The main announcement for this release is a major update to an important library
that Shotcut uses for the UI (user interface) called Qt.
There have 6 major releases and two LTS (long term support) releases since the
version we were using. The new version we are using is Qt 5.9.7, which is
LTS (5.9) and is quite stable given the number of revisions (.7). It is a little
faster as well. We did not upgrade to the latest LTS (5.12) in order to retain
compatibility with macOS 10.10 and 10.11, and we want to use the same Qt version
across platforms. (Linux Flatpak is an exception.) With our new Qt builds, we
added support for HTTPS, which extends to our HTML effects based on WebVfx
and QtWebKit. This will let custom HTML titles and effects that you make link
Added Offset to the Timer video filter.
Added Vertical HD 30 fps and Vertical HD 60 fps video modes.
